Re-Enrolling student from prior school year

We have a student who had a distinct student ID number and attended a couple years ago. This student left and we did not re-enroll them as we rolled over each year. They are returning now and we want to "reactivate" them as the state requires the same ID number. Is this possible from the web browser to re-enroll a previously enrolled student from a past year, or do I need to manually write an SQL line with the current school year enrollment record?

You will find instructions to re-enroll a student from previous school year, after rollover in the Rollover Guide PDF, page 8.

What happens if I have a student marked as “Do not enroll after this school year” who
finally returns?
Switch back to the last school year, go to Students > Student Info, edit the “Rolling /
Retention Options” to “Next grade at current school” (or whatever is suitable) and
save. An Enroll student for next school year link should appear below the “Rolling /
Retention Options”, click it.

francoisjacquet I know this thread is old, but what happens if a student is re-enrolled after say, 4 years.

If we go to the last year they attended, 4 years ago, and roll them over to the next, then next, then next, then the next, that would mean that the enrollment records would now be inaccurate, because they were not enrolled for the previous 4 years.

I suppose this can be done by directly editing the SQL and adding a new enrollment record for the current syear, but is there a way to do this in the interface?

tbeans you are correct, in this case, the way is to add an SQL record to the student_enrollment table.

~~Yes but still, technically, you can enroll the student and drop him on a date anterior to the enrollment start date. That would make him an "inactive" student.~~
Edit: this is an edge case. I have just tried that and you would have to drop the student after enrolling him in next school year. This will be fixed in the next version: if the "Enroll student for next school year" link shows up, then the student can and will be enrolled in next school year.

Otherwise you can create a new student account.

Yes, this was how we've been doing it so far. It's actually not much of an edge case, at least, not for larger schools/districts, I don't think.

We see cases like this several times a week and our data processors have to submit a ticket to get the enrollment record added manually by a sysadmin. It's a lot of administrative burden.

Creating a new student account isn't an option because, at least for us:
1. The student ID generated by RosarioSIS is a source of truth. Only one should exist for each person.
2. The academic history is not tied to that student, which is not only considered academic dishonesty, but also a data/legal compliance issue.

The best part about open source is that we can play around with it and make it work for us

I am sorry I did not make myself clear:

The "edge case" I was talking about is when the student has a dropped date anterior to the enrollment start date (inactive student). In this case, the "Enroll student for next school year" link is available but clicking it does not perform anything. This case will be fixed in the next version.
